PRODUCT CARE
Bardeaux Mobilier Inc. furnishings should be treated as antiques with all of the necessary precautions. Our materials are organic and sensitive to the elements. They will change in character if exposed to extreme changes in temperature, relative humidity, light and pollutants. We suggest treating your pieces with the care you would give a fine antique. Keep them out of direct sunlight and intense artificial light, control the humidity levels and use mild cleansers and polishes.
Fluctuating or extremely high or low relative humidity (rH) may be the single most damaging environmental factor for furniture. Moisture levels consistently above 70% rH can result in mold growth, softening of adhesives, and accelerated corrosion of metals. Our parchment, bone, shagreen and horn, like wood are naturally deliquescent and attract relative humidity.
To help prevent damage, you should keep humidity within the accepted rH range of 35% to 65%.
Harsh environmental factors also hurt our wooden frames. Differential rates of movement between constituent materials can cause finishes to crackle, fissure or flake.
It’s good policy to not drag or push furnishings, doing so will cause structural stress to both the piece and the finishes, lift chests, tables and chairs to move them.
PREVENTING DAMAGES
Lift tables from their legs not their tops, the torsion caused by the weight could break connecting parts, our cause warping if a piece is place down incorrectly.
Lock drawers and doors before moving chests.
Make sure mirrors are well supported before they are hung. Bending or leaning frames may break the mirror glass.
Do not handle finishes with abrasive surfaces, they may scratch or delaminate.
